We're all here for one reason that binds us: We all love the musical numbers in MLP. That said, picking a favorite and least favorite is a monumental task where I have to pick a fav/least fav from each season.
1st season: Fav: Cutie Mark Crusaders theme- Anyone who knows me well knows that I can't get enough 80s tunes. This song, though not perfect in its execution, does have that same vibe and the guitar is borderline orgasmic.
Least: You Gotta Share- Piano work is impeccable, but the vocals kill it for me.
2nd season: Fav: This Day Aria- If I said anything else, I'd be lying. This is a perfect villain song, and is good enough to be in a Disney movie, to be honest.
Least fav: Smile- Before you throw your rotten fruit in my general direction, hear me out, it was a tough choice, but this one just wasn't my thing. I like the animation and I like the build-up, but I think it's a little overrated for what it is.
I only have a fav for season 3:
Babs Seed: Same kind of reason for CMC, I love the retro vibe it gives off, almost like a Rick Springfield or Brian Adams track.

1st Season: There's so many good songs in Season 1, this is a very difficult task indeed.
At the Gala, Art of the Dress, and Winter Wrap-Up are at the top...if I have to choose one...I think I would go with Winter Wrap-Up, if only because of the amazing world-building elements this song embodies. Second place would go to At the Gala then, as it has all the main cast singing in it (as did Winter Wrap-Up). Then Art of the Dress.
For least favorite, I guess I'd have to go with You Gotta Share, You Gotta Care as well. I love Pinkie, and I love her intentions for the song, but it probably is the weakest of her musical ensemble.
2nd Season:
My favorite will be the This Day Aria as well. I love villains, I love villain songs, and I love minor key tonality, so when this song came on, my mouth was open in shock, I got shivers, and I could simply not look away.
There's not really a song I wouldn't want to listen to again in Season Two, but I guess my least favorite would be BBBFF.
3rd Season: At the moment, my favorite would be The Ballad of the Crystal Empire, I just wish it was a little longer. It starts to pick up at the end and has a great sound, but then it ends. I understand they have very limited time, but a guy can dream. A guy can dream.
Sim Gretina did a version of this song that extends it enough to satisfy my crystal desires.
Least favorite would be Babs Seed. It felt rather generic to me and a little too poppy this time around. I think I might have liked it more if they had continued with their Scooby Doo-esque chase scene montage parody, but they recycled a lot of the animation instead (and not in the above style either). It is my least favorite episode too(for Season Three), despite me loving the CMC, as the whole "bullying episode" was done too heavy-handedly for my tastes.

Hmm, this is hard... >.<
Season 1:
I think Art of The Dress is definitely one of my favorites, unless I'm forgetting something. As for my least favorite, I didn't like At The Gala too much. It's an okay song, but the pony-chorus kind killed it for me.
Season 2:
I really liked the Smile song and Becoming Popular. As for my least favorite, I would have to say The Perfect Stallion, just for my lack of being able to figure out the melody on the top of my head.
Season 3:
Both of the songs we've gotten are so good, I just can't decide!

Actually, Saxy, there's three S3 songs, with a 4th one coming this Saturday: Crystal ponies, Failure/Success, and Babs Seed (IDK if the next one has a title this soon)

I don't like ATG all too much. Why?
Listen to 'Hallelujiah Chorus'.
Daniel, you fraud. To think this was original...
(He basically ripped off the rhythms and swapped the instrumental. I mean, references are fine, but 95% of it's a re-hash.)
Favorite? In terms of instrumental, Smile. In vocals, Winter Wrap Up.

Huh, I never noticed that. Still, I have it lower on my list because, though the production quality is second to none, the choir is a bit much.

Actually, there's lots of songs Ingram does, though I think they're more of a homage or parody than trying to rip off - I guess that's in the eye of the beholder. Art of the Dress and Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 were two others, if I'm remembering correctly, from some musicals I think.

They WERE homages - there were actually unique things musically, recognizable but still incredibly new. The only unique thing musically in ATG is the sixteenth notes in the violins.

I always heard ATG was another Sondheim nod, but inspired by Into the Woods (One of my favorite musicals, BTW).This is the first I heard about the Hallelujah thing.

The hallelujah chorus has NOTHING to do with ATG, They are merely the same style. Hallelujah chorus is a (typically) Christmas song. It's a Christian song.

I love most of the mlp musical numbers except for a couple. Season 1: Favorite song: At the Gala, Winter Wrap I would have to say that I like At the Gala a little more than I like winter wrap up, but they both have such catchy memorable tunes and both leave a rather lasting emotional impression. I would say that they both are rather moving and powerful. Least Favorite: You gotta share, so many wonders It really has awful vocals and it is kind of annoying, and I have to say that I agree with the sheriff and the leader of the buffalo that the song is probably one of the worst songs I have ever heard (at least in my little pony. The absolute worst song could possibly be: don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me. Or at least, that is a MAJOR competitor) Also, so many wonders is a song I just find rather boring and annoying.
Season 2: Favorite song: This Day Aria, Smile Song, Find a Pet song If I had to pick between these I would probably say the Find a pet song is my favorite because it moves so fluidly and it just flows so naturally. The dialogue is awesome and comical at times and it goes through a lot of mood changes. Also the song ends with such a bang and it sounds delightful. I love this day Aria because it has such an... almost dissonant quality to it and it is an amazing villain song. It is very moving. I also love the upbeat tune of the smile song and it ends really, really strongly. Least favorite: may possibly be the BBBFF song because the one line in that song that says, "we never had a single fight." I have grown up in a family with five brothers, and let me tell, "not a single fight" is BULLCRAP!
season 3: Favorite: What my Cutie mark is telling me Least Favorite: possibly Bab's seed It's got a good, catchy tune, but it becomes so darn repetitive and it gets annoying.

Given Babs Seed's style (Bubblegum pop), repetition is to be expected, at least with the chorus. What did you like about What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me?

Well, with what my cutie mark is telling me song, I appreciated the words to the chorus in what my cutie mark is telling me because at least there was a whole chorus being repeated. But for Babs seed, what I was annoyed by was the repetition of the one line "babs seed, babs seed, she's just a bad bad" and so on. Also, just the phrase "bad seed" makes no sense to me. What does it mean to be a "bad seed?" I mean, i guess what I didn't like about it wasn't the repetition throughout the song, what I didn't like about it was the repetition of that one verse. Why did they have to say she is, "a bad seed." If they had thought of something else that rhymed and sounded less weird to repeat over and over again, then I would think better of the song. Also, I will say, that I don't dislike the song, it is just if I had to choose a least favorite song of season 3, it would have to be Bab's seed. It wasn't a clear choice. Of all the season 3 songs, I think that I enjoyed that one the least due to the weird line being repeated. What I liked about what my cutie mark is telling me is that it changed a lot throughout each verse. Also, during the last chorus, they transposed the song into a different key, I believe. Also, I just like the style, because it is almost conversational and I really appreciate songs that have an almost conversational style because I find that they flow very smoothly. Kind of like the find a pet song, and the perfect stallion song (which is kind of cheesy, but it sounds good). You are right though, it is unfair of me to say that I dislike a repetitive song while my favorite song is equally repetitive, maybe more. Next time I should give more reason than, "it becomes so darn repetitive."

I was never sure how so many people were taken with that Babs Seed song either, honestly. I think what killed it for me was the repetitiveness of the musical scene itself. I'm not really too much a fan of that song either though. A "bad seed" refers to a person (or pony in this case) that is the source of badness or the cause of a problem, I guess you could say. "Bad apple" or "rotten apple" could work in a similar way.
