With the premiere already underway, I figured some of you may have seen it and can give us some insight on how it is. From what I hear, it's nowhere near as bad as people speculated when pictures first surfaced.

It was a really sweet movie with some sweet songs.
I especially love the scene with Twily and her wingboners. That was just too funny.

I actually liked the story and thought it added a lot of depth to the Twilight we know, in terms of being a leader and adding a love interest. The movie was directly at Brony's with it's array of nuances in the film that only an older generation. The final cherry on top was the music starting with the opening theme remix (everyone in the audience was still singing the verse verse when it started ). The other music was also pretty good, but not as much as a surprise to me as the opening remix. I could write an entire book about what I liked and didn't like, so I will leave it here and stop before I get carried away.

I have seen it now and have to concur with what EqD was reporting: overall positive but with gripes here and there. I would say it's worth watching at least once if you're a fan, as the people that made it did put a lot of effort into it with tons of references back to the real show, and they are legitimately entertaining. I would still rather take my pony in equine form as the world of Equestria is just ripe with story potential and while they made the standard high school drama somewhat watchable, it's just...that. I don't think a love interest was necessary (and it felt flat, contived, and cliche) but the way they tied all that in was rather clever. I would have liked to have seen a bit more of the villain too, give her a bit more credence for the things that she does.
As far as the music goes, it is far more poppy than standard pony music - which is understandable in this setting, but it did feel a little...samey...overall. The standout is probably obvious by now: "Helping Twilight Win the Crown." Still poppy but with actual spirit and the pony puns we've come to expect. The intro title theme remix was cool too, along with the animations. It made me think how awesome a pony animation compilation of differing art styles would be, a la The Animatrix or others like that.

I haven't seen Equestria Girls yet but I have heard some good things about and I have also heard some pretty awful things about it. Like they added a character that twilight had a love interest in, I think his name is flash sentry, and he has about as strong a character as cardboard cut-out of Justin Bieber that is able to play guitar. I have heard that he is just your typical "brad." I have also heard that people watching it felt like they were watching a fan-fiction. Hey, I can't judge it yet because I haven't seen it yet, but that is what I have heard.

I saw it a couple of times as of my last posting, and I wholly agree with the general opinion: Great, but not perfect. The music, though poppier, was still top notch on all fronts, though Flash Sentry was more or less the Zac Efron clone of the film; just your standard pretty boy who's only there for shipping purposes. In fact one guy I know who saw the film in theaters said everyone groaned every time Sentry appeared on screen, but enough ragging on him.
Really, between him and some of the high school cliches which have made their way in the movie, those are the only faults I can think of.

"Worth watching" sums it up pretty well for me.

I thought that the movie was very fun and enjoyable; however, I also felt that it threw characterization out the window and I think that the main conflict makes no sense. I also think that the side conflicts make no sense and detract from the main conflict, which also makes no sense. One major problem with this movie is the Sunset Shimmer's plan. Who in their right minds would try to take over a whole protected nation with a military like Equestria with an army of high schoolers?!!! I mean seriously, who would try to do that. Those high schoolers would be zapped to death or immediately fixed as soon as princess celestia saw them and Sunset's plan would go up in not so glorious flames. Also, there is no reason why the element of magic should have ever put sunset in her weird demonic mode. I mean the show had already established that the element would only activate if the owner of the element was wearing, and would activate for no one else. Remember in the season two opener how Twilight was like, "congratulations, you are the new rainbow dash." to Spike? That definitely did not work. I mean I guess that the elements may work differently in a different dimension. But still, since when has the element of magic been and evil weapon that can transform people into demons with "godlike" powers. I mean these complaints aren't too big in retrospect. My biggest complaint was the blatant disregard the movie seemed to have concerning the characterization of the mane six. Why would they suddenly just stop communicating entirely because a friend commits one mean act. Wouldn't they be able to forgive each other and couldn't they at least communicate with each other to find out what's wrong. I mean, they would have at least texted each other and said something like, "dude, why were you such a jerk and why didn't you show up at my apple fundraiser." Did anyone else wonder why they didn't try something like that? I mean, there are tons of other examples where characters didn't quite follow their pre-established character traits. Another thing that really got me was that Flash Sentry character. His presence served no purpose. Any other character could fulfill any of his roles. Anything that he did and any purpose he fulfilled could be served by any other character and the theme would have been much more reinforced. That is, if there is a theme. I mean, it was still a really fun movie and it was enjoyable to watch, I just found it disappointing and I found the writing and story very lazily put together. But I don't want to kill the movie for other people and I also don't want to argue and just be Mary Contrary. If you enjoyed it, then that is great. I enjoyed it too, I just felt that a lot of it defied things that had already been established. That being said, there were some little latent details like the seen where that one dude totally looked up Twilight's skirt in a scene during the first song that made that movie hilarious. Also that scene where twilight just goes pompfff for no apparent reason!!! That was gold! Also that scene where Pinkie made Optimus Prime noises! Anyways yeah, very enjoyable movie that was very disappointing for me. That is just my opinion.

here's some good reasons to watch this movie
1. 10 minutes of actual pony exposition 2. Spike still changes into a species that once again is opposite of Rarity 3. Rebecca Shoichet steals Tara Strongs crown 4. Antagonist is in the mirror which only opens every 2 and a half years and still knows about the elements, who the important one to steal from is, and how to use it for the wrong reason 5. Canterlot Wondercolts.....is that like Cloudsdale Wonderbolts? 6. Antagonist's high shool photos are progressively getting eviler each year 7. Prince....i mean Vice Principal Luna....oh god what have they done to you? 8. Hasbro cashing in on high school musicals and scantily clad females put in situations of upskirting all the time 9. Applejack the only one that looks remotely human 10. Cutie Mark Crusaders on youtube 11. Twilight Sparkle in the mens bathroom 12. Fluttershy a doormat in alternate dimension 13. Main antagonist doesn't recognise lead protagonist....yeah we have an hour left in this movie so better make it count 14. Pinkie Pies cutie mark is actually real balloons xD 15. Twilight likes putting things in her mouth....running gag i suppose o.o 16. Furry Convention in the cafeteria 17. Hey Hey everypony..... 18. Spike looks up Rarity's skirt 19. Cleaning montage 20. Rarity does some twerking
this list is only a few reasons why you should watch this movie....just go watch it xD
