Yeah, I think the writers got a bum deal with the shortened season and they had to make due with what they had. Of course we'd be unhappy with less pony, but overall I enjoyed this season and look eagerly to the future.
Edit: Erm, think I was reiterating something I already said, so instead I shall rank my top three favorite songs from the finale.
I think most people would go with True, True Friend, Celestia's Ballad and I've Got to Find a Way as they're the most complete songs/not sing-talking a la musical style.
Out of these three, I think I have to go with Celestia's Ballad as first, if just barely ahead. Hearing Nicole Oliver sing with such warmth and love made my eyes swim a bit (though not the first time in the episode). Everything that happened in this scene just felt right.
Whereas I was filled with joy at Celestia expressing love and pride in her student, I was filled with great empathy when Twilight began her solo with I've Got to Find a Way. It had a soul-wrenching melody to it and whatever filter they used to dampen the colors for the length of the song was a fitting move.
Finally, my third favorite would be True, True Friend. It's always nice to have a song where all the Mane6 get a part (though Pinkie gets the raw end this time 'round). Much like At the Gala, Rainbow Dash's part had the best sound, in my opinion. Bravo to you, Ashleigh Ball.
In fact, Bravo to both Daniel Ingram and William Anderson to masterminding the music in this episode. Brava! Brava!
